Beer Blog

SO this blog will become my beer blog. I’m going to drink beers then explain their taste, rate them, pair them with things, talk about what they taste like, talk about their brewery, judge the artwork on their label, tell you whether or not to drink, probably throw in some corny jokes, maybe some facial hair references. Its going to be a melting pot of things, with beer being the broth. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Get Your Fill: Alltop and Lazyfeed

leave a comment »

I recently found two websites, Alltop and Lazyfeed.  Both of these websites aggregate content based on areas that you specify.  I have been a huge appreciator of this because it keeps me from roaming endlessly through page after page of Google searches that only lightly pertain to my mass of interests.  Now I can roam endlessly through one page that has headlines listed from either websites I select (Alltop) or ones fed to me(Lazyfeed).

Alltop combines all of the headlines from an insane amount of blogs and websites and allows you to select any of them and add them to your specific homepage.  The great thing about this “online magazine rack” is you can pick which websites to follow, as opposed to Lazyfeed which just cycles in all sources that contain your keyword.  There are some worthless blogs that are included in Alltop and it’s nice to be able to ignore those articles that put you to sleep halfway through the abstract.  Alltop’s list is huge and should be thoroughly explored in order to fully utilize the extent of it’s reach.  Some suggestions you say?  Well I suggest a look at the Art of Manliness, Beer Advocate, Logic + Emotion, Mashable, and Holy Kaw!  The last one is a group suggestions from Guy Kawasaki’s group of interesting-article-seekers.

As described by themselves: “Lazyfeed is conveyor belt sushi for your interests.”  Articles pertaining to topics you choose are automatically streaed into the homepage.  Lazyfeed is great because the browsing you have you have to do to find topics is much more limited than on Alltop.  When first visiting the site even gives you a brief tutorial on how to use their site.  The main tool is a ‘maintopic’ button that you click to add more main topics to your feed.  They all update automatically but you have the option to pause the stream, Lazyfeed dubbed it a treadmill, which is constantly refilled with new links.  If you want to just sit down and let the windows go, waiting for a worthy article, it’s nice to not have to ever hit the refresh button.  I would recommend some blogs or articles, but it’s more up to you on the keywords you want.

These news feeds really help me out in finding gems in the internet mine.  They’re like having a personal assistant, except they don’t answer my phone or bring me doughnuts and coffee, but there is always room for improvement.

Time-Travel Exists

leave a comment »

Time-lapse photography/videography gives us a rare chance to do something that seems purely science fiction: TIME TRAVEL!.  In seconds we rocket through an entire night or a full thunderstorm.  It also creates an amazing sequence of a steady subject surrounded by a beehive of motion.  Videos like this one share a huge chunk of time and movement into five minutes of recording.  The visuals that get created in these videos are one-of-a-kind, unless there are two of them, and are also a great alternative to sitting outside for 4-5 hours staring down the street.  Theres also the series of portrait time-lapses, including Noah who managed to remember to take a photo of himself for 6 years, and a guy who can grow a truly admirable beard.  Time-lapse is good by me and I’m appreciative of their ability to cram a huge chunk of time into a 3 minute youtube video.
